Making New Instruments

Mike’s current focus for making is on violin models from Stradivari’s golden period, just after the turn of the 18 century. He is in the midst of making a series of violins based on the 1715 “Titian” violin. These instruments use the popular P Form for the outline and are generally focused, bright, and powerful. A second model is slightly larger, based on the 1709 “Viotti” violin. This model tends to have a warm, rich tone.

The gallery here includes photos from the many steps from making the rib structure through varnish and set-up of new instruments.
